Courses Taught
AST 4217 - Stellar Astrophysics
An introduction to the physics of stars, including their birth, chemical make-up, interior processes, evolution, and eventual end states. Topics include the H-R diagram, polytropic models, white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes, and supernovae.
AST 4402 - Galaxies and Cosmology
An introduction to the physics of galaxies and cosmology. Topics will include make-up and structure of the Milky Way, stellar kinematics, photometry, active galactic nuclei, Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric, cosmological models, ΛCDM, and the cosmic microwave background.
AST 4721L - Astrophysics Lab
Experiments in astronomy with a focus on data analysis and applications from modern physics, including the areas of atomic, nuclear, and light/wave phenomena. Some night-time telescope observations are required. This course is intended for physics majors with an interest in astronomy.
AST 2004 - Stellar Astronomy & Cosmology
Introduction and overview of stellar astronomy and cosmology. Topics include modern telescopes and observatories, properties of the Sun and other stars, and large scale structure of the universe.
AST 3033 - Contemporary Thinking in Astronomy
An introduction and overview of contemporary astronomy designed to complement AST3044 (Archeoastronomy) to give a comprehensive overview of the science with the relevant mathematics. The course has included periodic video chats with astronomers to discuss the topic we are covering related to their research.
